Davey wins first NSSTS race at Bemidji

(May 18th, 2008) - On a beautiful sunny day and decent temperatures, the Northern Super Stock Touring Series made its first stop of the year at Bemidji Speedway. A total of twenty-three WISSOTA Super Stocks entered the pits with drivers such as Dave Mass and 2007 top ten NSSTS drivers being a part of the evening. Canadian drivers Paul Veert, who finished ninth in 2007 points, Scott Brown, who finished tenth in the standings, Colin Kendall, who was eighth last year, and Arnold Witt who finished seventh, all entered the NSSTS race. Rod Peterson, Gary Nelson Jr. who finished third and fourth respectively in 2007 was also in attendance.

Heat Winners from the evening included: #2 Dave Mass of Princeton, Minnesota, #48 Jerry Davis of Bemidji, Minnesota, and #43 Adam Long of Superior Wisconsin. The feature proved to be quite exciting with plenty of clean passing and cars moving up and falling back. The biggest wreck occurred about lap 16 when second place car Matt Sparby of Bemidji almost spun on his own and caused a couple cars further back to check up, #2 Jeff Reed got the worst of it when his nose went right underneath the car in front of him. Reed was unable to finish the race.

The battle would continue however, as Dave Mass began to be challenged by #91 of Andy Davey. With only about 5 laps remaining, Davey was able to take the lead and pull away from Dave Mass and the field, winning the NSSTS race of the night.

Returning tour drivers finished well on the night also, with #74 Gary Nelson Jr. finishing third, #44 Jean Fortin finishing ninth, #22 Rod Peterson finishing tenth, #15X Scott Brown eleventh, #88 Paul Veert thirteenth, and #K9 Colin Kendall finishing fourteenth.
